Five situations in which it is mandatory to use turn signals

It seems that some drivers are unaware of its existence, others are mistaken in its use. Turn signals are one of the functions of a vehicle that, although it may not seem like it, can prevent traffic accidents. And it is that they serve to notify other drivers of our upcoming maneuvers at the wheel so that, thus, the rest of the road users can anticipate our movements.

In addition to the fact that it is dangerous not to use them, forgetting to activate the turn signals is punishable by a 200-euro fine. So, to avoid problems on the road and losing money, it is best to remember when it is mandatory to use them. The DGT has prepared a special campaign to refresh the memory of motor vehicle drivers.

It is mandatory to activate the corresponding blinker in all the turns and changes of direction that we are going to make. If we want to turn left, we will have to use the left indicator, and the same in the event that the maneuver is to the right. It will be necessary to turn them on at the appropriate time to warn the rest of the vehicles.

Lane changes, roundabouts, overtaking.....

Likewise, every time we are going to change lanes or overtake a vehicle, we will have to use the corresponding turn signal. It is important in this second case, since this way the drivers behind us will know that our intention is to overtake and they will delay their maneuver, in case they also want to pass us.

Every time we are going to join a main lane, it will be necessary to use the turn signal. In this way, the rest of the users who are already circulating on this route will be able to see us and give us the right of way or react appropriately to our incorporation. It is also mandatory to use them to indicate our intention to leave a roundabout or roundabout.

Finally, whenever we are going to stop or want to park, it will be mandatory to put on the turn signals. In this way, we will avoid a rear-end collision by braking suddenly without warning of our intentions. Lastly, the DGT leaves the use of the blinker at the discretion of the driver whenever he considers it necessary to notify the rest of his intentions.
